Ultrasongraphy of liver

Ultrasonography of upper abdomen can examine the structure of liver and screen for presence of liver tumor, as well as abnormalities in gall bladder, pancreas, kidney and spleen. Ordinary ultrasound machine cannot measure the stiffness of the liver or accurately determine the presence of liver fibrosis unless in advanced case of cirrhosis which already shown abnormalities by ultrasound . For patients with hepatitis B, ultrasound scan should be performed half-yearly to screen for liver tumors.
