Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a diagnostic procedure to diagnose common bile ductal stone, bile duct obstruction, pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, etc. An endoscope will be inserted into the mouth and entered the duodenum. Then contrast will be injected into common bile duct through a cannula. Thus a diagnosis can be made under X-ray.

ERCP may also be used as a therapeutic procedure to remove common bile ductal stones, bile duct or pancreatic duct drainage and other related treatment and obtaining cytology from narrowed bile duct.
